Porcelain Art|Tableware|

Ronit Baranga - Tea party
Some people think that Israeli artist Ronit Baranga's bizarre tableware, cups and plates with ambiguous fingers and mouths in fact cause people lose appetites. Frankly, I did not think they will be practically used from the first time I saw them(Obviously they are a very arty art work). There is something I feel about them and it is not easy to put in words, as the artist herself said that she wants people to feel something when we see her work. Interestingly, she doesn't care what we feel. Sometimes in the art world, the uncertainty is a great success.

Anyone think of Hayao Miyazaki (宮崎 駿) when looking at her work?

And more...

There is a narrative independence that really intriguing, created by this contradictory combination of sensation/tenderness(finger tips and lips) and stillness of porcelain.

  • They make me think of books that I read, which are some of the eclectic collections of unconventional contemporary work in porcelain, glass and ceramics.
